The European Consumer Centres Network (ECC-Net) was created in 2005 by the European Commission with the aim of providing cross-border consumer information and assistance to all citizens ordinarily resident in the European Union (EU), Iceland and Norway. It is a network funded by the European Union Consumer Program (2014-2020) and brings together all European Consumer Centers (ECCs). In this way, consumers who are ordinarily resident in a Member State, Iceland or Norway can request free assistance from the European Center in their country to try to resolve amicably any disputes they may have with traders whose business is located in another Member State other than that of the consumer’s country of residence.
In 2005, as part of its mission to develop cross-border consumption within the Community area, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Consumers created the ECC Network by merging two pre-existing networks: The Euroguichets, created in 1991, whose objective was to provide information on cross-border disputes, and the European Extra-Judicial Network (EJE-net), which was dedicated to assisting consumers through alternative dispute resolution (ADR) systems.
