La Oreja de Van Gogh is a band from San Sebastian formed in 1996 by Amaia Montero (vocals), Xabi San Martín (keyboards), Pablo Benegas (guitar), Alvaro Fuentes (bass) and Haritz Garde (drums). They debuted in 1998 with the album

They then decided to try their luck in the recording world. A multinational company was interested in recording an LP. They reached an agreement with Sony Music and in Nacho Cano’s Ashram studios in Madrid and under the artistic supervision of Alejo Stivel they got down to work on what would be their first album, Dile al sol, which was released on May 18, 1998. There were 12 songs and the production was in charge of Alejo himself.

From Christmas 1998 to the end of 1999, La Oreja de Van Gogh gave more than 150 concerts. Nearly half a million people enjoyed the group live and everyone surrendered to their sound and staging. They had a good time on stage and that was transmitted.

But that was not the end of the awards for Dile al sol. On February 6, 1999 they reached again the Nº 1 of Los 40 Principales with the ballad Cuéntame al oído, their third single. Also, on February 11 they opened a new season of Conciertos Básicos de Los 40 Principales which took place in September at the Salón de Baile del Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid.
