Images of beautiful angels
In art there is a large number of images of female angels, however, in the biblical myths the femininity of angels is conspicuously absent. Contrary to what happens in hell, where gender diversity seems more balanced, with a large number of female demons, the Bible does not propose a single name, not a single reference, about a female angel.
To circumvent this uncomfortable lack of references, many theologians argue that angels are not male or female, that is, masculine or feminine, at least in the way we humans understand and experience gender differences.
Nevertheless, whenever the Bible mentions the word «angel» it is always used in its masculine form. In fact, when angels manifest themselves to people in the Bible, they are always seen as men; and when they are given a name, it is always masculine.
As we said before, all the appearances of angels in the Bible describe male physiognomies. Most of these appearances are generic, that is, the angel does not say his name, and simply goes about his work, often announcing something. But when they are given a name, they are always male, although there are not too many of them either. The Bible names only two angels by name: Gabriel and Michael.

When we talk about angels we always imagine beautiful creatures with curly hair and feathered wings, and in fact we are not wrong. But what about cherubim, or seraphim? We have all heard these names, but we rarely think about the relationship they have with the term «angel».
The so-called army of God of the Christian religion is composed of many types of creatures that protect, announce or symbolize the divine law in the eyes of men. To know a little more about their iconography and differentiate them when we see them in paintings or sculptures, we explain below what are the types of angels, how they are represented and their relationship with the figure of the Christian god.
Angels are the first sacred group within the angelic hierarchy. Because of their closeness to God, they are characterized by their love and devotion, which inflames them to the point of being represented burning. They are the most abstract, and can often be seen as a ball of fire in which a face with three pairs of wings can be seen.
